Wagamama’s: Need I Say More

What can I say about Wagamama’s that hasn’t already been said before; it’s class! Asian food inspired by the flavours of japan, serving hot pots, ramen, donburi, teppanyaki, curries, the list goes on. Wagamama’s is honestly one of my favourite comfort places to go eat. There is nothing better than the weather being cold and miserable yet you’re sat in a warm restaurant with a big steaming bowl of yasai yaki soba in front of you. I genuinely enjoy wrestling with the chopsticks for the first five minutes of my meal and the sense of accomplishment when I finally get the first portion into my mouth.

In this particular meal, we got the steamed yasai gyoza with udon noodles in a warming vegetable broth with roasted bok choi, chilli sambal paste, spring onion, coriander and chilli oil. Another first time try was the vegatsu curry, a seitan fillet coated in panko breadcrumbs and topped with sticky white rice and an aromatic katsu curry sauce. We also tried the new vegan k-dogs, a take on the korean street food made from soya, coated in a noodle crumb and drizzled with turmeric vegan mayo and sriracha. I can’t even lie, all of this food was just great. The yasai vegetable gyoza ramen was perfect for a cold October evening warming through my whole body. It had the ideal level of spice; not too overpowering but definitely enough that you can feel it. Vegan katsu curry is normally something we avoid-it seems like everywhere does one. With that said, this was actually our first and it certainly did not disappoint!

On the 5th of October 2023, as well as the K-dog, Wagamama’s launched a few new vegan dishes these include; tofu hot pot with tteokbokki and butternut squash, roti and raisukatsu, king oyster mushroom skewers in a red chilli and miso glaze, and the silken tofu gochujang rice bowl. A whopping 50% of Wagamama’s main menu is now plant-based, this is not the first and will not be the last time I go to Wagamama’s and I am definitely going to be trying more from the new vegan menu.
